South-West China Attractions

Welcome to South-West China
Top 5 Attractions

NO.1 Emeishan
This mountain is over 3,000 meters high and has 50km of hiking trails. The journey to the top takes two or three days without climbing and there are places to stay en route. For a day trip, take a bus to within two hours of the top or a cable car the whole way up. At the top is the Golden Summit Temple.
NO.2 Giant Panda Breeding Research Base

Around a dozen panda bears live at the centre and can be viewed during the day. There is a museum with interesting displays about panda habits and physiology, with plenty of pictures and good English translation.

NO.3 Leshan

Leshan is celebrated for its stone Buddha, at 71 meters tall the biggest in the world and an extraordinary sight. Built in the Tang Dynasty, it took 90 years to complete and portrays a Bodhisattva called Maitreya. The statue faces the river and has extraordinary detail on its face and head in particular. A hidden drainage system of gutters keeps the inner part dry and has helped to preserve the monument since 803 AD. Steps lead from the head to the base and boat trips are available for a panoramic view.
