NO.1 Business Street
Hainan boasts a brisk trade in pearls and shells and this is the place to buy. Avoid purchasing native coral which is marked as an endangered species and cannot therefore be legally sold.

NO.2 Butterfly Valley
Hainan is home to around 650 species of butterfly and most are on display here, fluttering contentedly in an extraordinary variation of pattern and color. Fascinating for younger children, this can be lots of fun for adults too.

NO.3 Chunyuan Seafood Stall
Choose your dinner at this busy seafood market then have it cooked and served by one of the many cooking stalls nearby. Discuss the style and presentation with the chef of your choice, who will also suggest some side dishes.

NO.4 Dadonghai Beach
A mid range holiday area, popular with Russian and Chinese tour groups and mostly local hotels. Rent a chair for the public beach and watch the world go by or explore the cheap eating options along the boardwalk. Scuba diving, boat tours and ocean fishing are all available here at reasonable rates. Worth noting is the view from Seashore Park to the east of the beach.

The city’s main shopping mall is a good outlet for arts and souvenirs, plus any necessities. The location is also home to many smaller fun shops which are well worth a visit.
